Woon Sze Chiann is a violinist of Malaysia’s National Symphony Orchestra (OSK) since 2015. She is a ATCL and LTCL Diploma holder in Violin Performance both with distinctions from Trinity College of London, and a recipient of Certificate of Excellence for both diplomas in Penang. Besides NSO, she is an active performer for other orchestra events such Yin Qi choir and festival orchestra, Penang Symphony Orchestra (PSO) and Kuala Lumpur City Opera (KLCO).
As a key member of the Penang Symphony Orchestra (PSO) since 1996, she has concert toured to Japan for the 12th Kumamoto International Music Festival in 1997, China (Guangzou, Beijing, Xiamen) in 2007, and to Hong Kong with PSO in 2014. The same year, she has performed as a soloist under the baton of Maestro Bao Hong together with PSO. She was also the leader for Penang Philharmonic orchestra and Choir under the baton of Martin Rutherford in 2011-2013, and also led the Penang Philharmonic Chamber group to perform for the TEDx talk held in Shanghai’s Concert Hall in 2012. She was a founding member of the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) for 6 consecutive years. She has been a violin tutor for the Penang’s Ministry of culture , tourism & fine arts outreach programme ‘MUSIK KE DESA’ since 2002, and has been conducting Violin classes in Uplands International school, SRK Convent Greenlane, SRK Convent Dato Keramat. In 2013, she was invited to be a participant for an annual Symposium organized by China’s National Violin Teacher’s Association. In 2019, she’s received training from Dr. Lanku Chen. Currently, she is a founding member of West Malaysia Suzuki Country group formed since 2020.
