Scarlet Gouk

Scarlet Gouk is one of the Malaysia’s leading saxophonists and educators. She graduated with her Master’s Degree in Saxophone Performance and Literature as a graduate assistant under
the tutelage of Dr. Chien-Kwan Lin at The Eastman School of Music. In 2019, she received scholarship awards and a First-Class Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from College of Music, Mahidol University. Scarlet also graduated with a diploma in Music Performance and was awarded the 2014 Best Student Award from the Malysian Institute of Art (MIA). Scarlet has studied with Jean-Marie Londeix, Rodrigo Vila, Kenneth Tse, Lars Mlekusch.

As an active performer and educator, Scarlet has conducted saxophone workshops at MIA in 2016 and at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Art Centre. She has also performed at the Mallorca Saxophone Festival, Spain. Scarlet was invited as an artist and lecturer for a series of international festivals including The La Pampa Saxophone Festival (Argentina), The RondoFest (Penang), and The Bun-Leng Project (Thailand). As a model for Young Saxophone Artists in the Asia Region, Scarlet represents Malaysia at the Dawn of Asia Saxophone Ensemble. The members of the ensemble hail from China, Macau, Hong Kong, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and Singapore.

Sapphire Quartet is the first reed quartet in Malaysia founded by Scarlet to help foster the public’s interest in reed instruments playing collectively. Recently, she collaborated with local artists to commission new works supported by the Cultural Economy Development Agency (CENDANA) and she was invited as the guest artist at the Society of Malaysian Contemporary Composers (SMCC) to commission saxophone works in Malaysia. Some of her competition accolades include, 1st Prize in the Asia Pacific Saxophone Competition (Solo Category), Thailand 2017 and 2nd Prize in the 2020 Music Teacher’s National Association (MTNA) New York State, Young Artist Competition.

Scarlet currently serves as the Saxophone Lecturer at University College Fairview, Malaysia.
